The White Tree of Akihabara

Continuing on my Log Horizon series of artworks, this three-dimensional adaptation of one of the most iconic objects of the anime stands at 700 feet tall.

Credits:
- Blender 2.79b, Cycles, 16 samples, 10-12 minute render time per frame, and ~16-18 GB of RAM needed to render. FIle size is 1.67 GB, making this my largest Blender to date.
- Grass Essentials
- Pro-lighting: Skies
- Agisoft Photoscan
- The Grove
- "Add Modular Tree" add on by Maxime
- Open Street Map

A special thanks to Maxime, whose modular tree add-on made the branching behavior of this tree possible. An animation showing the full branching will be posted much later.

All of the particles in this scene are actually in the 3D space; they are not created with a texture/displacement map.

Short Helicopter Camera Animation of the Scene

In the original anime, the tree was shorter and stubbier. I wanted to really bring out the size in the 3D adaption to feel more like the tree of the Omaticaya in Cameron's Avatar.

This particular shot is also animated; however, I will be saving this for later. This is uploaded to show the branching pattern of the tree.
